KumoTrip app (KumoTrip: Hike Map Diary) · effective from 2 October 2026
In a nutshell:
- 📱 Your routes, location, photos and finances stay on your phone.
- ☁️ Something is sent to the cloud only if you choose to sign in with Google – only for the leaderboard. In the leaderboard others see you only under your nickname.
- 📢 The app shows ads from Google AdMob. In the EU it asks for your consent first.
- 🗑️ You can delete your account and all server data with one button in the app or by e-mail.
1. Who processes the data
The data controller is the operator of the KumoTrip app: Josef Novák, company ID (IČO) 30007721.
Contact for all privacy questions: nymbus_travel@seznam.cz.
2. What stays only on your phone
The app stores the following data in your phone's memory and does not send it anywhere (except when you choose to sign in, see section 3):
- Precise location (GPS) and time – to record routes, calculate distance, reveal the map and discover places.
- Background location – so that routes are recorded even with the screen off or the phone in your pocket. A notification is shown while recording.
- Activity recognition (standing still, walking, cycling, driving) – so the app knows how often to ask for your location and saves battery.
- Photos and their location – the app reads the place and time a photo was taken from your gallery to show it on the map with your trip. Photos are never uploaded.
- Discovered places, districts, statistics, diary, favourite places.
- Finances – expenses, budgets, receipt photos and places of purchase.
- Backups – you save the backup file yourself wherever you choose. Before an app update, a backup is saved automatically to the Downloads/KumoTrip folder on your phone.
3. What is sent when you sign in with Google
Signing in is optional and the app works without it. If you sign in, we use Google Firebase (sign-in and cloud database) and process:
| Data | Why | When |
|---|---|---|
| Google account (name, e-mail and user ID) – stored only by the Firebase sign-in service | Signing in and linking data to your account | When you sign in |
| Nickname you choose yourself | Leaderboard – other players see only your nickname, not your name or e-mail | When you choose or change your nickname |
| Points (XP), number of places, tiles and countries, places per country | Leaderboard – others see these numbers next to your nickname | When you open or refresh the leaderboard |
Your name, e-mail and profile photo from your Google account are not stored in our database and are not shown in the leaderboard. The data is stored on Google Firebase servers. After you sign out no further data is sent; data already stored remains until you delete your account (section 7).
4. Ads
The app shows ads from Google AdMob. For this, Google may process your device's advertising ID, IP address and technical device data. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the app asks for your consent before showing ads (Google form). You can change your consent and reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in Android settings.
More in Google's advertising policies.
5. Payments
Any in-app payments are processed by Google Play. We never see your card number or other payment details – we only learn that the purchase was made.
6. Downloading maps and other data
To show the map, places and their descriptions, the app downloads data from the internet. With every download the provider sees your phone's IP address and what is being downloaded – for map tiles this reveals which area you are viewing. The app sends no other data about you to these services.
- Base maps: OpenFreeMap; aerial imagery from national mapping agencies (e.g. the Czech ČÚZK and similar offices in other countries).
- District boundaries and place files: our storage on Cloudflare.
- Place descriptions and photos: Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons (only the place identifier is sent).
- Exchange rates: the Frankfurter service (only currency codes are sent, e.g. JPY → CZK).
7. Your rights and data deletion
Under the GDPR you have the right to access your data, rectify it, erase it, restrict processing, data portability and the right to object. You can withdraw your consent to ads at any time.
Deleting your account and server data
In the app: Settings → 👤 Account → 🗑️ Delete account. Your account, nickname and leaderboard entry are deleted immediately.
Without the app: write to nymbus_travel@seznam.cz with the subject “Account deletion – KumoTrip” from the e-mail you use to sign in to the app. We will delete your account and all the data above within 30 days. We keep no data. Step-by-step instructions are on the Delete account page.
Deleting data on your phone
You can delete routes directly in the app. Uninstalling the app deletes all data on your phone, except backup files you have saved outside the app.
If you believe we handle your data in breach of the law, you can file a complaint with the Czech data protection authority, the Office for Personal Data Protection, or with the authority in your country.
8. App permissions
- Location (precise and background) – route recording.
- Physical activity – recognising walking, cycling and driving to save battery.
- Photos and videos, media location – photo map.
- Notifications – showing that route recording is running.
- Internet – maps, places, leaderboard, ads.
You can revoke any permission at any time in Android Settings → Apps → KumoTrip → Permissions.
9. This website
This website uses no cookies or analytics tools. It only remembers your chosen language in your browser. The “Google Play” buttons and QR codes go through our redirector (Cloudflare), which records the time, approximate location from the IP address (country, region, city), device and browser type and language for click statistics. We do not store the IP address itself – only a one-way fingerprint of it to count unique visitors per day.
10. Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
